I haven't been to Shoreditch station before I was pleasantly surprised to see a new site for these love locks. I'm familiar with the Pont de l'Archevêché bridge in Paris and know there are other sites around Europe, but didn't realise the tradition had spread to London.
My understanding is that the idea is that couples protect their love by customising padlocks, affixing to a fence or bridge thus locking in their love. This fence is also adorned by heart shaped woven from coloured wool in the link fence.
I'm intrigued to know if the padlock near the front, attached I assume by Lucas and Jodie-Marie, has been worn by the weather or is supposed to depict a broken heart!
